Batavia Public School District 101: The district weekly for October 13, 2021

BPS101 families:

This week, we are informing you of one additional mitigation measure that will be implemented in the district in the coming weeks.

Following the recommendations of Centers for Disease Control (CDC), along with our state and local health departments, BPS101 has implemented multiple layers of COVID-19 mitigation strategies to protect our students and staff during the 2021-22 school year. An additional layer will be added at the end of October. BPS101 is partnering with SHIELD Illinois (University of Illinois) to provide optional weekly PCR screening tests to kindergarten to grade 5 students. This is a non-invasive saliva test that will be performed on site during the school day. Families have the choice to participate or not and are invited to express their interest by registering for the program. If you do not wish to participate, you do not need to take any action at this time.

Given concerns about the Delta variant and the fact that the majority of our students are not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, the SHIELD program will provide an extra layer of protection to our schools by helping us identify and isolate quickly. positive cases. The program is offered to families at no additional cost – testing will be covered by the State of Illinois and will be performed during school hours (no appointment required).

Below are links to general information and frequently asked questions about SHIELD testing. Details and additional information about the SHIELD tests will be shared in the coming weeks and throughout the school year as updates are made to the curriculum.

SHIELD BPS101 2021-22 Testing Schedule

East Side schools = Tuesday morning

West Side Schools = Wednesday morning

If a school exam day falls on a public holiday, the exam day will be skipped and not made up. The students will test the following week. Parents will be informed of positive test results

This notice provides information about the SHIELD testing program to enable your student to give informed consent to participate in the weekly testing. By opting for screening tests for your student, you consent to your child being tested for COVID-19 infection and that the results and related information be shared with the BPS101 and public health authorities as directed. of the IDPH and the Illinois Communicable Disease Control Code. .

Our goal is to provide our schools with the best possible opportunity to maintain a safe learning environment while allowing our families to take full advantage of the added layer of safety that comes from effective weekly testing. If you would like to be part of this program by opting for weekly PCR testing for your K-5 students, please log on to the website PowerSchool Portal (not the app) and click on the “SHIELD Opt-In” link under “Quick Actions” on the home page for each of your K-5 students you wish to enroll.

The SHIELD program will not replace our schools’ health and safety measures, which include wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, cleaning protocols and regular hand washing, mitigation measures that are already reducing the risk of transmission at school. PCR testing is an additional tool that can help ensure that asymptomatic people do not come into our buildings and potentially transmit COVID-19 to others.

Look for additional information next Wednesday on this and other important topics in BPS101. If your questions are not answered HERE, please email us at [email protected]

Be well,

BPS101
