Local Parish Helps Raise Funds to Build Vocational School in Congo
GREEN — The Queen of Heaven Catholic Church is supporting the construction of a vocational school in the Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa, with a rendering of the school’s campus pictured above.
According to project organizer Gaspard Maphamuka Nzita, of Educate the Congo Project Inc., the school will focus on sustainable animal husbandry and organic farming methods. It will train community entrepreneurs in the Maluku territory of the capital Kinshasa to help them market their products through workshops on woodworking, food processing and drying methods, and marketing.
The school project is estimated at $20,000, with Congolese community members preparing the area, digging foundations and laying stones by hand to help keep costs down.
The parish has raised $2,000 so far and is asking for funds to support the project. Donations are accepted by check, mailed or brought to the parish office at 1800 Steese Road, Uniontown, OH, 44685, or on the website queenofheavenparish.org/queen-of-heaven-vocational-school-in-the-congo-project.
