NSBM Green University celebrates 5 years of excellence in its exceptional journey in higher education | Print edition
The NSBM Green University, the first degree granting institute in Sri Lanka, celebrated its 5th anniversary on Tuesday October 26. Commemorating the five glorious years of its victorious journey, the university celebrated its 5th anniversary with a simple but prestigious ceremony while respecting the health directives in force in the country.
This commemorative ceremony took place at the premises of NSBM Green University in Pitipana, Homagama, and was honored by the honorary presence of Dr Seetha Arambepola, Hon. The Minister of State for Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation as the main guest and other distinguished guests, including Ms. Deepa Liyanage, Secretary of the Ministry of State.
As part of this anniversary celebration, the university had planned a program of special events and activities. One of those events was the opening of the new playground, an iconic construction activity of NSBM Green University-Phase II, the ongoing construction project on another 15-acre lot adjoining the premises of the existing university.
The ceremony began with the gracious arrival of the main guest, the Hon. Minister Dr. Seetha Arambepola in the premises of the university. Hon. The Minister was greeted by Professor EA Weerasinghe, Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University and brought to the Phase II construction site with a briefing on its ongoing developments and full site development plan.
Then, as the Minister of State unveiled the opening plaque, the new playground was officially declared open and dedicated to the NSBM student community. In addition, in line with the university’s green initiatives, a tree planting event was also held under the patronage of Dr Seetha Arambepola, as a commemorative activity of the ceremony.
In commemorating the victorious journey of NSBM Green University, the university has launched an illustrative book, “Our Journey 2016-2021”, which provides an overview of the events and its expansion in infrastructure, technology, education. and research during the five years since its inception in 2016. In addition, a special commemorative issue of the biannual magazine of the NSBM, “Business Dialogue”, has also been published on the occasion of the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the ‘university.
The first copies of these publications were solemnly delivered to the Hon. Minister Dr. Seetha Arambepola on the occasion.
The event was further celebrated by Professor Chaminda Rathnayake, Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Professor Baratha Dodankotuwa, Head of Quality and Academic Assurance, Senior Management, Deans, Directors, Academic and Non-Academic Staff and the students of the NSBM.
To further mark this 5-year milestone in its journey, NSBM Green University will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with five leading companies in Sri Lanka for future collaboration commitments.
Apart from this, as another exciting celebration activity, the Welfare Society of NSBM is to produce a 50-episode youth TV series titled “Nannaththara”, which will be directed by award-winning creative artist Jayantha Chandrasiri. The teledrama muhurath ceremony took place on October 27 at the university premises.
NSBM Green University is a self-funded institute under the Ministry of State for Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation. It was officially awarded to the nation in Pitipana, Homagama, on October 26, 2016.
During these five years of success, the NSBM has grown into a highly responsible higher education institute that offers higher education opportunities unique to Sri Lanka. With the remarkable success and achievements achieved in a short period of time, this 5th anniversary marks a milestone in the history of NSBM Green University.
