University of Assam Down Town Celebrates 9th Day of Convocation | MorungExpress

Guwahati, September 19 (MExN): Assam City Center University (AdtU) celebrated the 9th Convocation Day at the University Campus on September 16.

A university press release said Professor Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam; Dr Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Welfare of Ordinary Tribes and Backward Classes, Assam; Dr. Shekhar C Mande, former Managing Director of CSIR, New Delhi, graced the occasion with dignitaries, faculty members, students and parents.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi appreciated the contribution of AdtU in shaping intellectual minds and creating the much needed quality of human resources in various fields.

Professor Mukhi said he is a firm believer in the idea that education is one of the key drivers for socio-economic development and the creation of livelihoods to lead a happy and dignified life. He informed the students that getting their degrees was not the end of their journey, in fact, it was just the beginning. “Words mean nothing if they are not followed by actions.”

The Minister of Education, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, in his remarks, recognized the role of AdtU in contributing to the education sector and commended its efforts to ensure the employability of students after the end of their Classes.

He said the role of private universities cannot be underestimated as they help provide quality higher education to thousands of students when state universities cannot accommodate them due to their limitations. He pleaded with the AdtU to offer a greater variety of vocational courses which will provide substantial employability for students.

This year, 1300 students and scholars graduated, including 1063 undergraduates, 299 postgraduates and 12 doctorates which were awarded. Shiny Ahmed, Master of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, took the oath of dedication. The program also saw the awarding of gold medals to the best graduate – Lunasmrita Saikia, and to the postgraduate – Shiny Ahmed. The Best Placement Recipient Appreciation Award went to Shatakshi Chakraborty, and the AdtU Alumni Award for Inspirational Achievement was received by Farzana Afreen.
