University of Bolton launches new sports rehabilitation and physical activity center

The state-of-the-art sports rehabilitation center, managed by the University of Bolton, will benefit both residents and students.

The new Sports and Physical Activity Rehabilitation Center (SPARC) is based at the Jason Kenny Center in Bolton One, on the university’s main campus.

The facility was officially opened by the university’s Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Caroline Cowburn.

She said: “The university has invested in this new industry-led vocational center which will enhance our students’ experiences and their preparation for the world of work.

“SPARC has a holistic approach to health and wellness and is open to everyone, using the latest treatments from experienced professionals.

“This is an innovative model in which Bolton NHS Foundation Trust will use industry standard facilities three days a week for the local population, with the remaining two days open to private clients, sports teams and the community. at large.”

The new wellness center is open to all and will focus on service delivery, including physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

The site is also an educational center, which will give current students in physiotherapy and sports rehabilitation programs the experience of working alongside professionally trained staff.

The SPARC facilities are a further part of Bolton One, a £ 31million health, recreation and research center, which was built through a partnership between City Council, NHS Bolton and the University of Bolton.

Several health and sports services are already established within the leisure center, including the Athlete Development Center (ADC), the Research Center for Health and Well-being and the Clinical Simulation Suites and Sport.

University students also benefit from Bolton One’s clinical stimulation suites, which provide a stimulated clinical environment in which students can learn.

The Dean of the Faculty of Health and Wellness, Dr Jane Howarth, said: “We equip our students with a wide range of theoretical and professional skills, as well as the knowledge that will enable them to become a professional in health. health.

“Simulation Based Education (SBE) is integrated into our curriculum to ensure that all of our students have a good idea of ​​how and when to use their knowledge and skills.
